Active and Index Combined Long-Term Mutual Funds and Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs): February 2026

Washington, DC; March 31, 2026—The combined assets of the nation’s active mutual funds and ETFs increased by $238.68 billion, or 1.3 percent, to $18.01 trillion in February while the combined assets of the nation’s indexed mutual funds and ETFs increased by $277.77 billion, or 1.4 percent, to $20.06 trillion in February according to the Investment Company Institute’s official survey of the mutual fund and ETF industry.

Highlights: Long-term active funds—equity, hybrid, and bond funds—had a net inflow of $34.63 billion in February versus an inflow of $6.28 billion in January, while long-term index funds had a net inflow of $109.04 billion in February versus an inflow of $93.02 billion in January.

Active funds
Equity funds posted an outflow of $26.72 billion in February, compared with an outflow of $41.30 billion in January. Among equity funds, world equity funds (U.S. funds that invest primarily overseas) posted an inflow of $3.07 billion in February, versus an outflow of $3.21 billion in January. Funds that invest primarily in the United States had an outflow of $29.79 billion in February, versus an outflow of $38.10 billion in January.

Hybrid funds posted an outflow of $2.00 billion in February, compared with an outflow of $4.51 billion in January.

Bond funds had an inflow of $63.34 billion in February, compared with an inflow of $52.09 billion in January.

Index funds
Equity funds posted an inflow of $67.83 billion in February, compared with an inflow of $48.96 billion in January. Among equity funds, world equity funds (U.S. funds that invest primarily overseas) posted an inflow of $35.15 billion in February, versus an inflow of $47.63 billion in January. Funds that invest primarily in the United States had an inflow of $32.67 billion in February, versus an inflow of $1.33 billion in January.

Hybrid funds posted an outflow of $156 million in February, compared with an outflow of $796 million in January.

Bond funds had an inflow of $41.37 billion in February, compared with an inflow of $44.86 billion in January.
